I haven't lived in a single-family home in more than 25 years. So I had to think long and hard before I could articulate my must haves if we are to buy one.
One thing for sure is that I am no longer willing to compromise when it comes to having a place that I can really enjoy and love, be it a condo or a house.
To that end, high ceilings and lots of natural light came up as a must have, to my own surprise. I would much rather have a small place with high ceilings than a big place with low ceilings for these reasons and more.
Our condo above; my parents' place below:
There is no substitute for natural light...
ReplyDeleteNo ma'am, there isn't!
ReplyDeleteHonestly for your condon has decent natural light. It may be possible to add skylights based on condo regulations. The high ceilings well.....that would have to come with a different home.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. We could not ask for any more natural light than we already have, which is why I want to renovate and stay put. And, the height of our ceilings - in our 'great room' and our master bedroom - is 12 feet tall. Assuming my parents' door frame is standard height, I estimate their ceiling height between 14 and 15 feet based on the photo of their entryway above. I'm good with 12 feet.
